The Axminster Health and Wellbeing Centre is a non-profit making, community based charity. The grade II listed building in the centre of town houses 5 therapy rooms and a larger function room which could hold up to 30 for a talk. Our room hire prices are amongst the most competitive in the area.
The Centre is also home to “Canned Sunshine”, Axminster’s food bank. The service we provide is a life line for people in crisis. Referrals are welcomed from Doctor’s surgeries, Citizen’s Advice, Job Centres, Social Services, Local Councils, Children’s Centres and other professionals dealing with the care of people in need. The food bank is viewed as a short term measure to help people get back on their feet.
On Thursday afternoons from 1.30-3.00pm we are host to the Cancer Information Point. This offers those living with or affected by cancer a safe and friendly environment in which to gain both practical and emotional support. Referrals are always welcomed and we are looking for volunteers with experience of cancer to help us ensure the café is well used and a useful community resource.
It is also a point of contact for Read Easy Axminster and Seaton. Read Easy provides one to one free reading tuition to any adult who wants to learn to read or improve their reading. Volunteers and readers meet at the Centre twice a week for half hour sessions working from a special book and at their own pace in a comfortable and confidential environment.
The Centre is open from Monday to Friday 9-5 and can be found at Hanover House, Chard Street, Axminster, EX13 5DZ.
